For my newest model I laser cut the structure of my curtain wall and then built form work and poured a concrete foundation/retaining wall. I'm hoping it comes out nicely tomorrow.

This is my sisters apartment. I really love the minimalist lifestyle. While I was there we could only sit and eat on the floor. There are no chairs and is virtually empty. Both her and her roommate don't have real beds; they sleep on air mattresses. I think it is really nice to see the bare minimum you need to get buy. They are getting a couch this week, though.

A couple days late due to the extensive filter process, but here is a sample of my pictures of Relay's Best Dance Crew featuring Fighting Gravity on Friday night. I took a total of 806 pictures for the whole event and filtered it down to 225. I will be posting them in a flickr account shortly and will be sure to post that link.

We had section, plan, and elevation drawings due a couple days later. These are the ones I whipped up and will serve as working drawings throughout the next couple months as my ideas and design change and develop.
Sorry I know I've been posting a lot of Architecture lately, but that's kind of all I have done for the past week and a half or so. Lame I know. I'll be sure to get some new more interesting things up here soon.

My professor told me I should take pictures of my recent sketch models because they would be good for my portfolio, by showing how I work and come up with my designs.

The first one is 1/16" model in the site plan that helps the study of the galleries structure and some lighting conditions. The site helps provide a presence that the gallery holds in the site.

This is a 1/8" section model that helped me also study structure and how the building met the ground. I also began studying how to circulate through the gallery space. My professor really liked the roughness of this one, because he says, "It speaks a lot to your ideas and the roughness of your design right now. It has a lot of play, and you won't be afraid to rip it apart and tape new things to it as the design develops." Indeed.

Pretty much my first design for this gallery. The design derived from MC Escher's constant study of two objects working together to become one in the positive and negative space. More specifically, his lithograph "Drawing Hands". We have a 1/16" = 1' scale model due tomorrow. This is the basic form. It is 3 stories of gallery space with a large lobby that can be used as a ballroom. The roof doubles as a sculpture garden (a part of the program). Right now the exterior screen involves a pattern of steel bracing and double glazing creating an air space that helps lower heat gain in the constant pursuit of climate control in an art gallery. I plan on making many changes after our crit tomorrow.

Today, I took a break from studying the Kunsthaus Museum & the Bechtler Museum (for Building Analysis class) to start making some progress on my gallery project for studio. I have decided to design a museum that only houses MC Esher's work. Today I was just did a lot of research and tried to pull multiple ideas and areas of study from some of his work. My first 5 minute model looked like this. We'll see what comes of the next couple days of work.
