3am on the last day of January. This was literally one of the craziest weekends I've ever had. I did over a week's worth of work in 2.5 days. This was my desk after I finished.

Where I will be spending my weekend for the VSAIA competition. Forgot my nice camera so this is just off of my phone. Hopefully I'll remember to bring it tomorrow morning when I'm here...

January 27

Pretty much my first design for this gallery. The design derived from MC Escher's constant study of two objects working together to become one in the positive and negative space. More specifically, his lithograph "Drawing Hands". We have a 1/16" = 1' scale model due tomorrow. This is the basic form. It is 3 stories of gallery space with a large lobby that can be used as a ballroom. The roof doubles as a sculpture garden (a part of the program). Right now the exterior screen involves a pattern of steel bracing and double glazing creating an air space that helps lower heat gain in the constant pursuit of climate control in an art gallery. I plan on making many changes after our crit tomorrow.

January 25

Today, I took a break from studying the Kunsthaus Museum & the Bechtler Museum (for Building Analysis class) to start making some progress on my gallery project for studio. I have decided to design a museum that only houses MC Esher's work. Today I was just did a lot of research and tried to pull multiple ideas and areas of study from some of his work. My first 5 minute model looked like this. We'll see what comes of the next couple days of work.

So I've realized that it is really hard to get one picture every single day while back at school. I don't carry my camera everywhere because I don't want it to get stolen and broken. So I guess I'll do the best I can at updating but it certainly won't be everyday. Sometimes there are just boring days. No reason to document boring days, right? RIGHT.

Today, it was finally sunny and I was able to take my final model, the Room and Garden, from the fall outside to take some pictures in the sun. It was like 25 degrees and the wind chill was around 12, so I didn't last long out there.

I've been wanting to do this for a while and finally built up the motivation to put in the work. Going to be adding some more stickers soon (Once I decide where they should go). BTW it's an Uhh Yeah Dude sticker.

New 1TB portable external for my pics. It's portable too. 10 times smaller than my other external and the other is only 500gb. Weak sauce!

They've been calling for snow for some time and nothing ever came. Finally we have some accumulation. It was a good time for night shots and learning how to make places appear brighter than they really are while playing with the shutter speed.

Did nothing but watch football and Hokie basketball from this seat all day! Heaven.

Tim leaves for Chile tomorrow and I won't see him again for a while, so we went to Honey Pig and pretended to be/speak Korean. It was delicious as usual!

Happy Birthday Eroica!! Her dad needed to clear brush and we needed to stay warm so we had a bonfire Clarke County style! Beyond being in the middle of nowhere, feeling like a serial killer would pop out of the woods and kill us, and wondering if we would set the whole forest on fire, it was a lot of fun.

January 5

Tonight I went up to the high school to help teach the Indoor Drumline. I took a video but nothing worth hearing. They are in the beginning phases of learning the show. They have worked through most of the music, though it is still rough, and plan on learning all the drill in the next 2 weeks. Hopefully in a couple months I'll be able to post pics and videos from one of their competitions. The show is called "Simplicity"


I worked with the Baseline most of the night. They are all newbies to drumline but are doing pretty well.

Back in Maryland for the rest of winter break. Playing with my camera and documenting the awesome Ninja Turtle shot glasses my friend gave me for my Birthday!

On the first of the year, I traveled with the Marching Virginians on a chartered flight out of Richmond to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, for the Discover Orange Bowl.

Intro

I got a Canon EOS Rebel T2i for Christmas, and I decided that I wanted to document my year in photos. My goal is to take at least one picture every day this year. I'm starting a couple days late but I'll still make posts for the first couple days of 2011. Hope you enjoy!
